Health Benefits:

What are the health benefits of infrared saunas?
There are numerous health benefits to infrared saunas. They include:
Better Circulation and Increased Energy
Weight Loss
Cardiovascular Health
Speed Recovery from Injuries
Detoxification
Stress Reduction & Relaxation
Skin Beautification
Improved Immune System

Will an infrared sauna help me lose weight?
Infrared saunas certainly help to control weight. A sauna session increases circulation which exercises the heart, giving the same benefits as gentle exercise.

How Infrared Saunas Work:

How do infrared saunas operate?
Far Infrared saunas are equipped with heaters that heat your body. This heat warms your body directly, as distinct from a traditional sauna which heats the air surrounding you. This infrared heat is completely safe.

What exactly is Far Infrared heat?
Imagine you are outside on a partly cloudy day and it feels cool. Suddenly the clouds move out of the way of the sun and a rush of warmth comes over you. This warm feeling is the far infrared band of sunlight warming your body. This band of light has the ability to penetrate our skin and warm our body directly.

Is Infrared heat safe?
Infrared heat is completely safe. Hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborns. Far Infrared heat is part of the very safe bandwidth of light, unlike Ultraviolet (tanning beds) or microwaves.

Won't I get sunburnt in the sauna?
No. Damaging effects to the skin, such as sunburn, are caused by Ultraviolet light. This light is at the complete opposite end of the visible spectrum to Far Infrared. Infrared rays are very beneficial and provide all the benefits of sunlight without the harmful UV rays. Infrared saunas are completely safe, and your skin will benefit from sauna sessions through allowing increased blood circulation to carry great amounts of nutrients to the skin, thus promoting healthy tone and texture.

How long should I sit in an infrared sauna?
We recommend that people should not stay in the sauna for more than one hour.

Can my children use the infrared sauna?
If they are supervised at all times, yes. The sauna can get very hot and people, especially little ones, can become dehydrated. Children should not be allowed to use saunas unsupervised.

Are the lower temperatures in an infrared sauna still effective?
Yes. The therapeutic operating temperature is much cooler, 20° - 60°C compared to a traditional sauna which requires temperatures of up to 90°C. This is important because one can withstand longer sauna sessions, resulting in increased sweat production.

Why choose an infrared saunas and not a traditional sauna?
Traditional steam saunas do not heat your body directly. Instead, they raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the sauna. Some people find this extremely warm air uncomfortable. FIR saunas operate at a lower temperature, and allow for longer sauna sessions. FIR saunas are safe for all ages. Infrared saunas also heat up quicker than traditional saunas.
With the infrared saunas, the heat is absorbed deep into our bodies, where toxins are stored. The sweat produced from an infrared sauna is therefore deeper and more concentrated that of a traditional sauna, allowing for a greater expulsion of toxins.
The running costs of an infrared sauna are lower than that of a traditional sauna.

Installation and Maintenance:

Do I need any special electrical work done before the sauna is installed?
No, all you need is a wall outlet to plug in to. Because of the double wall construction, the sauna will not get hot on the outside, so you can place it flush to the wall. You will need at least two inches of clearance above the sauna, as this is where the electronics, air vent and fan are. The sauna can be placed on any type of flooring. The sauna is designed to vent directly into the room. Since there is no excessive steam or humidity, an external ventilation system is not required.

Is a sauna suitable for my home?
Yes. All our infrared saunas are suitable for both commercial and home use. Having an infrared sauna in your home will allow you to relax and enjoy all the health benefits that saunas offer, without having to pay for expensive gym membership.

How much space do I need to install a sauna?
As saunas can be placed flush to the wall, our saunas can be installed even in homes where floor space is at a premium. See the "Sauna Range" section of our website for the exact dimensions of each particular sauna.

How long does it typically take to install an infrared sauna?
It usually takes about 45 minutes to fully assemble one of our saunas. Our team will arrange a date and time that is at your convenience, and we will take care of the installation. Should you later want to assemble the sauna in another location, our installation manual will be able to guide you through the process. Apart from a screwdriver, no other tools are needed.

How long does it take to warm up the sauna?
You should allow the sauna to warm up for between 20 - 25 minutes. Make sure you drink plenty of water before, during and after the session, as you will certainly lose a lot of sweat!

How do I keep my infrared sauna maintained?
Before sitting or reclining on benches, place a towel under each person to absorb perspiration. Sweep or vacuum the sauna periodically (at least once a week if used heavily) to remove dirt, hair, etc., from the interior of the infrared sauna. Wipe the walls with a damp cloth or a sponge, using a mild solution of soap and water, and then rinse well with a damp cloth and plain water. Do not use too much water as the wood will tend to turn dark. Never hose down the interior of a sauna room. Never apply paint, stain or other chemical finishes or sealant to the interior of the sauna.

Can I put an infrared sauna outdoors?
No. Our saunas are designed for inside use only.

Can I put an infrared sauna in my bathroom?
No. Sockets are not allowed in bathrooms. See the ESB's Bathroom Safety page for more details.

What is your most popular size sauna?
The 2 person sauna model is the most popular sauna size. Most of the time one person will be using the sauna. The 2 person gives you enough room to move around and change positions without getting too cramped and is big enough for 2 people as well. The 3 person or corner unit gives you more room to stretch out and is more suitable if 2 people will be using it most of the time. The one person is great if you have space limitations.

What type of wood are the saunas made from?
Our saunas are manufactured with high quality Hemlock fir. Hemlock fir is a strong, stable wood that is reasonably priced, thereby allowing our manufacturers to produce high-end saunas at an affordable price. Hemlock is sturdy and resistant to warping. Many sauna outlets sell cedar saunas. Cedar is a very expensive wood that pushes up the cost of the sauna without giving any additional benefits.

Does an Infrared Sauna cost much to run?
The cost is very low. An infrared sauna uses about as much electricity as a hair dryer. At the current ESB rates, the 2-Seater SL model will cost approximately 30 cents per hour. The ESB's Appliance Calculator page will calculate the exact cost of the model you are interested in.

What model is best for me?
There are a number of factors to consider when deciding what sauna model you wish to purchase. These include the amount of space you have in your home, your personal preference for space and the number of people who will use the sauna simultaneously. We offer one, two, three and four person saunas, as well as a convenient corner-unit model to maximize space utilization in your home. Our one person sauna can fit into the smallest of spaces. The two person sauna is our most popular, and at just 120cm in length by 90cm in width is also very compact. The three person sauna is a classy looking corner model. Both the four person sauna and the five person sauna are great for a family, or for someone who wants extra space.

Do infrared saunas have heater timers?
Yes. Timed temperature controls are included on all models. You can set the temperature and length of the session and the unit automatically shuts off afterwards.

What is an Oxygen Ionizer?
An Oxygen Ionizer removes bacteria from the air while the sauna is in operation.
